Position Summary

Following continued growth across our landscape architecture, ecology and arboriculture services, we are expanding our presence in Winchester and are looking for an experienced Senior Ecologist to play a leading role in establishing and growing our ecology offering in the city and surrounding region.

This is more than a traditional Senior Ecologist position. The Role

The successful candidate will deliver arboricultural consultancy services across a range of development and planning projects. Working closely with the established Lizard arboricultural team in Worthing, you will undertake surveys, assess tree condition and constraints, prepare technical reports and plans, advise on tree retention and protection, and provide arboricultural input throughout the planning and development process.

The role will include:

• Undertaking BS 5837 tree surveys and assessments.

• Preparing Tree Constraints Plans and Tree Retention Plans.

• Preparing Arboricultural Impact Assessments.

• Preparing Arboricultural Method Statements and Tree Protection Plans.

• Undertaking tree condition, hazard and physiological assessments.

• Identifying tree pests, diseases and pathogens.

• Providing arboricultural advice to clients, architects, planners and project teams.

• Advising on tree retention, removal, protection and mitigation measures.

• Providing arboricultural input into planning applications and development proposals.

• Liaising with Local Planning Authorities and other consultees where required.

• Supporting arboricultural supervision and implementation on development sites.

• Managing individual projects and workloads, including programme and fee requirements.

• Working collaboratively with Lizard's landscape architecture, ecology and planning teams.

The role will involve a combination of fieldwork, technical reporting, CAD-based plan preparation, project management and client liaison, providing a varied workload and the opportunity to work across all stages of the development process.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and motivated arboricultural professional who is confident working independently while also enjoying the benefits of being part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary practice.

The ideal candidate will have:

• A minimum of 5 years' demonstrable experience in arboricultural consultancy.

• A degree or relevant Level 3 or higher arboricultural qualification, such as FdSc, HNC, NDip Arb, Arboricultural Association Technician's Certificate or equivalent.

• Strong knowledge of BS 5837 and the application of arboricultural principles within the planning system.

• Experience undertaking tree surveys and preparing professional arboricultural reports.

• Competence in AutoCAD and/or KeyTREE.

The Role
