NITRATE NEUTRALITY

Where new overnight accommodation is proposed in proximity to protected harbours, the increases in wastewater can cause pollution and degradation of delicate coastal habitat. New developments in such locations must demonstrate ‘Nitrate Neutrality’ to be permitted. 

Lizard landscape Design and Ecology can provide Nitrate Budget Calculations in accordance with Natural England Guidance for sites impacting upon the Solent, and determine the mitigation requirements to offset any increase in nitrates.  

LLDE have links with local mitigation schemes where credits can be purchased if an increase would occur, and can also design on-site mitigation where land is available, through woodland and wetland creation. LLDE use our ecological and landscape expertise to maximise the efficiency of mitigation and to provide the most suitable and beneficial habitats for the locality. 

New mitigation habitat requires long-term management and LLDE are experts in producing detailed management plans for new habitat creation.
