+ Info

Located in the centre of Crawley, Crawley library is a four-storey, purpose built development comprising a public library, office space and registry for births, marriage and death records, as well as a space for conducting wedding ceremonies.

LLD were commisioned to implement a design strategy for the surrounding areas, to include a plaza, a public square, a woodland garden area and provision for both public and staff car parking. The plaza and public square are unified with a paving design which contrasts an intricate block work, silver grey pattern with red sandstone paving. Featured sculptural ‘Escofet’ benches accentuate the paving pattern, whilst uplighters adjacent to the benches create a dramatic light and shade contrast at night time.

The public square is defined by semi-mature tree planning and enhanced with site specific tree grilles designed by Lizard Landscape Design, featuring individual literary quotations relating to books and trees. In, addition, there are circular oak tree seats, specifically designed for Crawley library.

The woodland garden area provides an opportunity to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of town activity.
