At Lizard Landscape Design & Ecology, we believe tree surgery and arboricultural services are a vital component of any potential development project, in order to carry out such work in an ecological, environmentally conscious manner. Arboriculture is essential in development, which is exactly why we conduct tree assessments to assess the size, condition, crown spread, species and stem diameter of any and all trees either on or near your development site.
In this helpful guide, we provide a breakdown of tree surgery and arboricultural services to offer insight into how they work, the techniques used and how they can benefit you.

Tree Surgery
A specific form of arboriculture service, and a highly common one at that, tree surgery is typically carried out on existing sites, in both commercial and domestic settings, to provide essential care and maintenance work to trees. This will often include cutting, pruning, cosmetic enhancement and even tree felling or stump removal, should the tree have died. Below, we take a closer look at the different types of tree surgery, highlighting the process and key benefits.
Crown Thinning
Used to help let in more light and improve the strength of your tree, crown thinning is the delicate process of removing specific branches to help thin out the fullness of a tree. This is ideally carried out with little to no structural alteration, or change in shape to the tree, whilst the additional light will ensure the appropriate levels of nutrients will reach the interior of the crown.
Crown Reduction
Used to reduce the risk of rot or disease from spreading throughout your tree, crown reduction is the simple process of removing deadwood and crossover branches to eliminate the disease from spreading. Not only this, but it will also ensure your tree is well tidy and presentable.
Crown Lifting/Raising
Much like crown reduction, crown lifting is used to remove specific pieces of the tree, but only for the purposes of light penetration. By removing certain leaves, branches and canopies, light can then penetrate through the tree and reach the ground.
